Local Artist Sets Up Camp in the Plaza
Nick Bayer’s Happy Camper from the Faux Real Performance Art Series
Friday, May 8th and Saturday, May 9th 2015
The Faux Real series explores the use of theming as an interactive performance art experience for the viewer. Theming is often used in commercial settings, for everything from holiday décor at department stores to the immersive environment of theme parks; to create or recreate an experience the consumer can relate to. Happy Camper, the first performance in Bayer’s series, takes the relatively common American experience of camping and places it in an unexpected environment; eliminating the sense of place associated with common memories.
Viewers are encouraged to inject themselves into the faux environment, and memorialize the experience through photography. In doing so, participants become the performance for outside observers and inadvertently influence them to also become participants. Participants are encouraged to share photos of their experience with friends and family via social media using the hashtag #FauxRealArt.
The gallery will host its first interactive performance piece, Happy Camper from the Faux Real series by Nick Bayer on Friday, May 8th during Live on the Plaza (7:00pm – 11:00pm) and Saturday the 9th (11:30am – 7:30pm.) All gallery exhibits, installations and performance artworks are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30am – 7:30pm, Friday from 11:30am – 8:30pm, Saturday from 11:30am – 7:30pm and Sunday from 1:00pm – 5:00pm.
