Meet Reclusive Artist Joe Turk
At the Private Edition Signing
Thursday, November 20th from 7:30 – 9:30
Joe Turk’s oil on canvas paintings stem from an emotional bubble in time which the artist draws on for inspiration. The self-taught outsider artist is a native Oklahoman whose notoriety has grown enormously over the two years since his work was introduced to the Oklahoma City art scene. Much of the mystery surrounding Joe’s work stems from the outwardly dark nature of his paintings and his naturally reclusive character. Turk’s compositions depict the human experience through the artist’s tribulations; whereby a delicate wide-eyed bird clutched in the claw fingered palm of an ominous hand can become a metaphor for anyone who has ever felt squeezed, repressed or simply paid taxes. His narrative works gives an even deeper glimpse into the artist’s perspective and how universally it can be related to our own.
Over the last two years numerous gallery visitors, patrons and admirers of the artist’s works have inquired about purchasing fine art prints by the artist. We are pleased to announce that, after much consideration, the artist will be offering a limited edition run of 25 archival fine art prints of his painting The Complainer. The first edition run fine art prints will come mounted in high quality acid free cotton mat and packaged in an archive sleeve. The fine art prints image will measure 13” x 22” and the mats will be cut to fit a standard 22” x 28” frame opening. The gallery is now offering pre-purchase on this limited edition run of “The Complainer” by Joe Turk. The mounted fine art prints will retail at $220.00. Those who would like to pre-purchase their Complainer will receive a 10% discount on their purchase and an opportunity to meet the creative recluse, Joe Turk, at the private edition signing (Each print purchase will admit two people to the signing event). The private edition signing will be held at Kasum Contemporary Fine Art on the evening of Thursday, November 20th from 7:30-9:30. During the event the artist will also unveil his most recently completed narrative painting “The Surrendering of an Ego”. Attendees to the event will have an opportunity to meet Joe Turk and have their works personally inscribed by the artist. The gallery will provide complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres during the closed event.
In this image: The artist Joe Turk recently portrayed himself into one of his surreal scenes titled “The Complainer” (Pictured Above). The Complainer has a lesson for all who play the game of life. He has waged war in an unwinnable game of checkers and chess against the most fiendish of opponents. At left in the composition the regal royal empty heart gestures inquisitively at the observer. He knows that the game is rigged; the darker aspects of his character ensured as much. Enraged by the game The Complainer veers away from the wise gesture of calm and quiet that his conscious advises in this visual metaphor for our common human experience. The Complainer, Oil On Canvas, 24” x 40”, Joe Turk, 2014, Sold.
